We have successfully transitioned OFF the nipple shields (started using due to nipple trauma from incorrect latch in hospital)

Appreciation Post 🤗
Just an update from where we were a couple weeks ago.
We were in hospital admitted due to unexplained weight loss ( 200grams in 2weeks) most probably due to a low supply. Although initially devastated with the prospect of giving up/switching to formula (which was heavily advised by the treating Drs) so much pressure! We persevered.
We are now gaining weight steadily. Finally above our birth weight. We have successfully transitioned OFF the nipple shields (started using due to nipple trauma from incorrect latch in hospital) and slowly transitioning off formula 'top ups' started in hospital.
Grateful for this group the encouragement from other mums and if you are struggling please reach out.

I weaned off nipple shields!! I love seeing my baby so peaceful and smiley.

✨August Clifford is 6 weeks today and every day we get a little closer to easier feeds! He’s even starting a little more rythym with his feeds - every 3 hrs.
I was struggling weening off nipple shields🛡 and we finally have had successful night feeding and all day feeding- both breasts with rest and digest.
😭I was having blocked ducts, nipple pain and milk blisters but now using the points of symmetry and fine tuning we’ve got a great latch with NO pain (just initial discomfort that goes away once we get started)
🥺I never thought I’d be able to breast feed my babe.
💦 We went through low supply, blisters, heavy let downs (I use a Hakka and hand express if I’m really full before he feeds now so it’s gentle expression) and so many tears but every difficulty we kept going.
💕
I love this program and love seeing my baby so peaceful and smiley.
🤱🏻I also love knowing that all that matters is he’s happy and fed and I love the community here.
👑Mamas- don’t guilt yourself.
I fed my babe formula to top up when my supply was low, I have my husband take over from 5-10 at night, sometimes if my nipples are sensitive I bottle feed.
🙅🏻‍♀️It took a while to not guilt myself but all that matters is we are all trying our best to find our own rythym and way amidst sleep deprivation and anxiety.
🤗Sending so much love to all the mamas and admins and people who make this program what it is.

I am only using the shield on my right side and my girl nurses like a champ with or without it. She is 2 weeks old today and it only gets better from here!

Just want to say thank you to this group ❤️ being a first time mom and wanting to be as prepared as can be, Dr. Thompsons breastfeeding program has made that possible for me! The nurses at my hospital were extremely forceful in their techniques which caused me to have nipple trauma, (both sides) using a nipple shield and having to supplement with formula. Thankfully knowing what I’ve learned here, as soon as i got home i quickly unlearned all their methods. Now, I’ve completely reverted from formula (she gained .5 oz in 4 days after birth!) and I am only using the shield on my right side and my girl nurses like a champ with or without it! She is 2 weeks old today and It only gets better from here! Thank you ladies of the breastfeeding club for the support and guidance💕

I stuck with it and was gentler on myself and was so proud to take this photo this morning - his first latch without a shield! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Purchasing the program was worth every penny!! Posting to give others hope and to tell you all to be easy on yourself! I posted when baby was 2 days old and again 2 weeks old and had private messages with Joanne! I wanted to post everyday because it was SOOO hard and I just didn’t know what to do, I considered giving up completely. From adding in a nipple shield, to having to introduce formula then refusing the breast all together and screaming at every feed for the bottle, from a huge weight loss and to not gaining at all.

We are still struggling but not to the point I want to give up! I stuck with it and listened to Joanne Thompson and was gentler on myself and was so proud to take this photo this morning- his first latch without a shield, I mean the next feed he went right back to the shield screaming when I tried without but to have him latch without the shield, even one time is a step in the right direction! The whole point of me posting was to tell you all to not give up if this is something you really want to achieve! Here he is at 4 weeks latched without a shield and did off both breasts, still supplementing as he still isn’t back to birth weight but we will get there ❤️❤️❤️❤️

We don’t have any issues, no shield and no bottles of breast milk. She is gaining and growing.

I just wanted to say thank you. We are 5 months EBF.
It was a difficult journey. I had watched some videos and read about the Thompson Method slightly before my delivery but wish I had done it sooner.

I knew about the Three Golden Hours and forceful technique of the hospital sometimes teaches. I had a planned c section due to surgeries from a complication of the delivery and loss of my son in 2018.

This delivery was also emergent as I lost consciousness from a reaction to anesthesia.

Needless to say I didn’t get my golden hours. I didn’t hold my daughter for 8 hours. She had a really hard time latching and we were both really tired and out of it from all the meds. It was complications after that. Nipple shields, forceful pushing of her head, mastitis, high bilirubin, light therapy, pumped colostrum, bottle feeds of pumped milk. It was terrible.

But this program, it helped me hold the line of what I wanted. I was able to seek more advice, read more information, listen to other women, and now we feed 7 times in 24 hours and we don’t have any issues, no shield, and no bottles of breast milk. She is gaining and growing. I would buy this program for any expecting mom. Thank you Dr. Thompson, thank you moms for sharing your experiences, thanks for cheering me on.

We have made it through thrush, mastitis, tongue and nipple shield use

I just wanted to share this win with this amazing group. Today, my second beautiful girl is exactly the same age as my first when she abruptly stopped breastfeeding,. Cold turkey. She was teething, had a cold and at the pressure of well meaning family and friends I had stated her on a bottle and she never went back no matter what I tried.

Breastfeeding had ALWAYS been painful with my first so I was relieved and devastated all at once, but so so frustrated with no support.

Now with this baby and this amazing program, it’s night and day. We’ve been through thrush, mastitis, tongue tie, shield use, you name it, but we have made it through everything with support and confidence because of Dr. Robyn and the amazing admins here. I LOVE breastfeeding my baby, pain free and happy.
We are now nearly 6 months in and going strong with no end in sight.

Thank you Dr. Robyn Thompson and the whole team from the bottom of our hearts, I only wish I had found you sooner ❤️

He started on nipple shields. We weaned him off them at around 6-7 weeks old and have never looked back.

I just wanted to take the time to thank Dr Thompson and her staff. The knowledge and techniques I have learnt from your videos and this group have been the reason we are where we are today. Here’s my 4.5 month old, EBF, happy and healthy big baby boy Kai ❤️ He started on nipple sheilds as I have flat nipples that got flatter when my milk came in. We weaned him off them at around 6-7 weeks old and have never looked back! Our technique has just continued to improve as time passes. And if I’m ever having any issues, I just come back to this group and get the info and support I need. Thank you so so much. I hope you know how much we appreciate you and the time and effort you put in to help us xx

As of three days ago we have been nipple shield free! So thankful for this program

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! Along with an update. My son is almost 7 weeks old and prior to three days ago we used a nipple shield as suggested by the hospital nurse (due to nipple pain) although my son latched right away and was doing pretty. The shield was helpful I will say, but as of three days ago we have been nipple shield free! So thankful for this program, I used it a lot when I was pregnant but have found myself using it a ton more now that I have him in my arms! I am glad to be able to share it with others as well because I know what a blessing it is for me to have come across it. Breastfeeding is quite a job but it is so worth every minute. I am so pleased that I have been able to do it and with the help of this group it has made breastfeeding easier than without it! So thanks again so much! Here’s to keep on keeping on!! 🤱🥰

This program gave me all the knowledge and support to feel confident and empowered in my breastfeeding journey and to make the right decisions.

I (think?) I got rid of the nipple shield. At 6.5 months. It's never too late! Months ago I thought breastfeeding was only for a couple of months, the length of our maternity leave. That's how uneducated I was! 🙈 I was offered a shield at the hospital on day 1 because my nipples were so sore. My baby got used to it and so did I. Around 5 weeks PP I switched to exclusive pumping because breastfeeding was becoming emotionally draining and my baby was suffering from colic pain.

At 10 weeks PP I discovered this program and decided to give it another try but my baby had gotten used to the bottle and I faced breast refusal. So I kept pumping until 4 months.

A week before travelling overseas (a 30+ hour trip alone with my baby) I realized pumping would be challenging so I slowly started offering my breast when she was drowsy. It worked! A week later I was done with the pump. Still with the shield, but so content of my progress. I even said to myself that keeping the shield wouldn't be a big deal, at the end of the day what matters is what gets into her stomach, not how. I tried removing the shield but poor little baby was coping with a long separation with her dad for the whole summer, a new house, so many new faces, a 9-hour time difference, and a growth spurt and developmental leap. So I remained patient and positive for a few more weeks.

Two days ago, we were at the park for a short walk and she had fed just before leaving home. Suddenly with so many people and lots of activity around she asked for a comfort feed. I had forgotten to bring a nipple shield with me and naively thought I wouldn't need one since she had just fed. I offered my breast and said to myself before starting, "now I feel confident to give it a try." She latched on both sides! We came back home and I decided to keep offering my breast without the shield so long as she doesn't show any sign or distress or frustration. And here we are! 6 months ago, I would have never believed all I'm writing. I wasn't enjoying breastfeeding, it was painful and took all my days and nights. Now it's pain-free, much faster (this cutie can now feed in 5-10 min!) and a truly enjoyable moment for baby and mommy.

This program gave me all the knowledge and support to feel confident and empowered in my breastfeeding journey and to make the right decisions - and some of the best decisions were to just wait and give it another try later. Now I have no more goals other than enjoying this bond so long as baby wants to. I know there might be more challenges along the road, but I now feel confident baby and I will overcome them. I want to thank Dr Robyn Thompson - The Thompson Method for her vision and knowledge, the admin team who has always responded to my questions in such a timely, gentle way, Rachael Weisse Austin who supported me in my breastfeeding rescue and followed up with me till we reached success, and Joanne Thompson who has been here every time I needed help.

And to all the moms wondering when will be their turn, please know that patience and perseverance will pay off and that you will come out of these challenges with more pride and confidence than ever before ❤

No nipple shields, no formula and exclusively breastfed the whole time.

I nearly threw in the towel many times with my first baby, now 4yrs old. We had a magnitude of issues - flat nipples, breastfeeding pain, nipple trauma (multiple times), nipple shields, weight gain issues, expressing for top ups and even resorted to formula top ups, nipple shield rejected at 4 months old. But I persevered and we made it through to 11 months (have no idea how I managed to continue!!)

Then with my 2nd it was so much easier and I got some amazing advice from this page along with the wealth of knowledge in the live videos and all the amazing posts. No nipple shields, no formula and exclusively breastfed the whole time. I’m amazed myself at how successful we both were and how much easier it was the 2nd time around. Maybe things just came easier as I trusted myself, never doubted my ability and we both just ‘knew’ what to do the 2nd time around.

We just recently successfully weaned (and easily) at 2 years old. Im so thankful for all the advice and support.

Wishing every mama all the best in their journey. I personally know how hard and selfless this can be 🙏🏻❤️

Had I known about this course with my first baby, I might have had the right knowledge and support to breastfeed him for longer

Celebrating 1 year of breastfeeding through tongue and lip ties, oversupply, under supply, nipple shields, bottle refusal and everything in between. Had I known about this course with my first baby, I might have had the right knowledge and support to breastfeed him for longer than I was able to. However, I am proud of my achievements breastfeeding both of my kids for different lengths of time. ♥️

If you would have told me we would eventually be here at 7 weeks, and I would be feeding my child with no pain and no cumbersome nipple shields, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Hi, first time mom here and I just wanted to pop in and share.
After struggles with being told I had flat nipples, using a nipple shield, pumping and bottle feeding and hating having a “middle man” between me and feeding MY baby, I decided to really stick with the Thompson method and trust the process. Even after 3 weeks of no breastfeeding we were still able to do it with the Thompson Method!

I want to encourage my fellow mammas out there who may need to hear it, DON’T give up! My baby and I are still learning everyday but, in those early weeks if you would have told me we would eventually be here at 7 weeks, and I would be feeding my child with no pain and no cumbersome shields, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Keep going mammas, and trust your instincts! You’ve got this, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t breast feed if that’s your heart’s desire.
Thank you to the Thompson Method!

Pic of my baby girl Michelle for cute content 💜

We weaned off nipple shields! (I never thought we could achieve that!)

Thank you for all your help and support. It’s with great sadness that I am posting the end of our breastfeeding journey. We managed just under 8 months, not the year that I had hoped for once we passed 6 months. We overcame jaundice, latching difficulty, Strep B, weight loss, we weaned off nipple shields! (I never thought we could achieve that!) we managed to be EBF after needing top ups and we had a month of not being able to feed one side due to a bite that wouldn’t heal. My journey with my 1st child ended at 6 weeks due to CMPA and being unable to latch. This program gave me 8 months feeding my baby girl. But stress and circumstances of being on my own for the past month with my two children while my husband visited his dying father in South Africa, and then getting stuck there, and having to quarantine on his return, have resulted in my milk drying up and my baby girl pushing me away 💔. I had hoped to one day post a milk bath photo but my supply never let me. On Tuesday after taking every known supplement to increase supply, pumping every 2 hours for days and still only getting 2 tiny drops of milk per session, I finally gave up on trying to build up a supply again. It was an incredibly tough journey for us at the start and I’m glad I kept going. I’m very emotional about it ending sooner than I had hoped, but I’m trying to think of the positives. I have a thriving baby girl, who got the best start and my COVID vaccine antibodies. Thank you 🙏 and goodbye ❤️ it’s just too painful to see the posts right now as this is my last baby x
