Reclaiming the Narrative: From System-Dependency to Biological Literacy.
Women share stories of feeling unequipped during pregnancy, only to face unnecessary interventions, trauma, and confusion once their baby arrives. The result is an unsustainable strain on midwives and generations of mothers feeling powerless.
The Thompson Method exists to change that.
In an era of unpredictable global supply chain instability increasing pressure on healthcare resources, the most resilient health intervention we have is an informed mother. It has never been more critical for organisations to join forces to bridge this self-care gap.
We are inviting organisations, healthcare providers, and global health advocates to partner with us in a Prevention First Model. This model moves beyond "reactive" crisis management and focuses on:
- Restoring Autonomy: Giving women the foundational knowledge before birth so they can make informed, powerful decisions about how they give birth to and feed their babies. This increases their confidence and reconnects the woman to her maternal instincts.
-
Securing the Natural Supply Chain: Ensuring that even when external systems are under pressure, the biological bond and nutritional flow between mother and baby remain uninterrupted.
-
Supporting Midwifery Excellence: Equipping the frontline with a proven framework that honours the physiology of birth, reducing the systemic burden and allowing midwives to return to their core expertise.
The Thompson Method is moving beyond a solo mission. We are seeking partners to help us deliver the knowledge that restores a woman’s power and secures the health of the next generation.

Research.
Our approach is not just a philosophy; it is grounded in decades of research:
- Dr Robyn Thompson's PhD Research revealed that breastfeeding complications in the early postnatal period are closely associated with the medicalisation of a woman's labour and birth, resulting in a delay or interruption to the first breastfeed (The 3 Golden Hours)
- Independent Research conducted at the Mater Mothers' Hospital proved that facility wide implementation of The Thompson Method significantly reversed the declining trend in direct breastfeeding at hospital discharge and reduced the risk of exclusive breastfeeding discontinuation by 3 months.
RWE: Real World Evidence.
The Power of Lived Experience
We bridge the gap using Real World Evidence (RWE) methodologies.
- By building research capabilities directly into our support systems, we capture the "biography" of maternity, gathering data from real-life interactions, health outcomes, and daily support needs. This modern approach allows us to prove the impact of our education in real-time.
- We don’t just rely on theories; we use actual evidence from the lived experiences of the women we serve to drive better outcomes for mothers and babies everywhere.

Meet The Woman Behind The Thompson Method
Dr Robyn Thompson, Founder
RM, RN, M&CH, BAppSc, PhD, OAM
After spending decades guiding women through labour and birth as a hospital midwife, then a further 25 years as a homebirth midwife, Dr Robyn made a curious observation: Women who gave birth to their babies at home had significantly better breastfeeding outcomes than those who gave birth in hospital.
Dr Robyn made it her mission to find out why that was the case and, at the age of 70, she was awarded the world's first PhD in nipple trauma.
Her seven years of PhD research became the basis for The Thompson Method, and her online programs have helped 90,000+ women prevent and overcome common breastfeeding challenges. In 2023 she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her contribution to Midwifery and Breastfeeding Research.
